Some guidelines for online psychotherapy:
Online psychotherapy provided only through audio and video calls. Text, audio and video messages are not used to share any type of clinical information, being only used to arrange times, reminders, etc. The services offered are focused on Brazilian and Foreign adult clients (individuals and couples), in English and Portuguese.
This modality of care provides access for people living in remote regions to psychotherapy, as well as helps when clients who are in the face-to-face process are unable to come to the session, for example, when traveling. There are also clients living in other countries, who can benefit from this form of service. There are also clients living in the city of São Paulo, who prefer to have the online service, so they don’t have to deal with traffic jams or waste time commuting.
Online psychotherapy has been recognized by different studies as being very effective, as long as this practice is based on evidence, in addition to having the interventions being conducted by qualified professionals.
The platforms used prioritize information security once data is encrypted by an advanced encryption system.
The machines (computers, smartphones, etc.) used are also protected by antivirus software.
Despite all the above precautions, we know that the internet is not a 100% secure environment. For this reason, below are some important actions for you to take, in order to better ensure information security:
– When scheduling your appointments, remember to choose a time when you know you will be in a reserved place, with privacy. This point is very important, so that other people do not interrupt or overhear the conversation during the sessions.
– Do not use public computers or computers that are shared with others from your work, college, etc.
– If your home computer is shared with other people in your family or any other people in general, be careful to close all the pieces of software used during a session, right after the session is finished.
– When accessing any piece of software to be used in the online service, never enable the “save passwords” option. Please also be careful to keep all passwords related to the online service confidential.
– If the software used for online communication has the function of archiving messages that are exchanged between users, disable this function.
– If the software used for online communication has the recording function, disable this function.
– For the proper functioning of the online service, it is important to have a stable internet connection with a speed that allows the use of the equipment involved in long-distance communication.
Each session is pre-scheduled and lasts 50 minutes. The reason that the sessions last 60 minutes on the Doctoralia calendar is to facilitate the scheduling on the calendar.
Currently, services are being carried out through the Zoom platform, as instructed below:
After making an appointment through the Doctoralia calendar, you will receive an email with the instructions on how to access the Zoom room. It will also be requested a quick filling of some information to advance the registration, so that session time can be used to focus on the psychotherapeutic process.
Alternatively, online psychotherapy can be carried out through audio and video calls from other platforms, such as Whatsapp and Skype.
It is important to be ready 15 minutes before each online meeting, to avoid session delays due to possible technical problems.
